Caleb
Cardenas is a freshmen 125 pounder. He came to Wheaton without
ever visiting from Dulzura California, and dreams of one day
becoming a Division III All-American. I believe Caleb possesses
the skills and passion to achieve his goal. Caleb is a quick, fast
twitched wrestler with an intense work ethic and a large amount of
technical skill. As a high school wrestler he wrestled for Steele
Canyon, and was captain for three years. He is the third of five
siblings with an older sister an older brother, and two younger
brothers. His parents are Mike and Missy. Caleb is an active guy
and full of energy. He loves music and outdoor activities such as:
long boarding, cliff jumping, snorkeling. He thinks surfing is
lame. His top three musical artists are: Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd,
and MGMT. Only time will tell what the Lord has in store for
Caleb’s time at Wheaton. We can only hope and pray that God will
bless him with success, and the eagerness to wrestle for His
glory.
Wheaton Wrestling Memory Lane

In
February of 1946 Dave Howard went up against a giant. Similar to
the biblical story of David and Goliath, Howard stepped out onto
the mat to face Cecil Mott, a formidable opponent from Iowa State.
As it stood, Howard had been having a good season, and had little
knowledge of his opponent. As Mott shot in Howard pulled him up
off his legs and slipped into an old fashioned sandlot. Within
seconds Howard threw a backstreet headlock and tightened up the
lock around Mott’s neck. After slamming the powerhouse Mott to the
mat Howard pinned the Iowa star in 1:17. Mott was defeated that
day, and David Howard went on to win the biggest upset of his
career. Later that year Mott would go on to win the NCAA
Tournament and become a wrestling legend. Nevertheless, it was
Howard who got the best of him that day.
